Need college credits?
Published by spetrosky, under Educational Component. No Comments.
It is a Department of State requirement that all au pairs complete their educational component before they are able to extend an additional 6, 9, or 12 months. Many au pairs may wonder how they’ll be able to fulfill this requirement if they do not have a lot of time left on their year. The solution is easier than they think. Make sure you check out our newest program offering, www.aupaireducation.com There are courses taking place all summer from Boston to San Francisco. While courses are filling up quickly, there may still be room so it’s certainly worth looking into, particularly for au pairs who are coming close to the end of their year and wish to extend.
If you are planning to extend - AND I HOPE YOU ARE - make sure you have your educational component under control. Need help? Call me!

Want to Improve your English?
Published by spetrosky, under Educational Component. No Comments.
In addtion to classes that you can take as part of your educational requirements, there are many classes, most of them free or little cost, that will help you enhance your English-speaking skills. Here is one au pair’s explanation of a class she enjoyed.
“Here is a place to improve your English, and it’s free.” The main office is in Chester and classes are held in Chester and Lansdowne. Classes are in morning. “This is only a 10 minute drive for most au pairs.”

Continuing Education Units
Published by spetrosky, under Educational Component. No Comments.
Au Pairs are required to take classes while in the United States. Here are some answers to many frequently asked questions.
How much is one CEU worth? Continuing Education Units are wroth the same amount as credits. That is 1 CEU = 1 Credit.
If an au pair wants to take a class listed as .5 credits, but is 72 hours, can she count it as 72 hours? No. Since the school assigned a credit value, it is worth only .5 credits.
An au pair wants to take a “hybrid” course that has some classroom assignments with some classes taught online. Is that acceptable? No. Most hybrid classes do not meet the State Department requirement that a class be in a traditional classroom.
Can an au pair extend before she has completed all of her coursework? No (so get it done!).
What if an au pair takes a course that begins in the first year, but doesn’t end until a month into the second year? Au pairs must finish all of their classwork before the end of their second year. So, this would not be acceptable.
What are the problems if an au pair does not complete his educational component? He doesn’t get his deposit back. He will not be able to extend. The program risks being shut down.
What proof does CCAP require to show that an au pair finished their coursework? Confirmation from the school that shows completion can be in the form of a certificate of completion, a letter from the professor or a transcript.
